Choosing the right soap for your skincare needs can be difficult. But we are here to help you find the right match for you! Whether you’re looking for unscented soaps for sensitive skin, exfoliating soaps for dry skin, or something to help with a specific skin condition, we can help.

Some people with sensitive skin need to switch to an all-natural soap. It is important to note here that not all handmade “all-natural” soaps are created equal. Commercial soaps, including many name brands we see at the grocery store, are not soap but chemical detergents that strip our skin of its natural oils and contain many chemicals that can irritate sensitive skin. At Bay Berry Bliss, our soaps are made with 100% USDA Certified Organic Oils and Butters. All of our all-natural soaps are either unscented or scented with 100% pure essential oils, and any colorants used are clays, spices, oxides, or micas that come from the earth. Essential oils provide many benefits to the skin and could be a safe choice for some with sensitive skin. Fragrance oils may be fine for some but offer no therapeutic benefits.

Here are some recommendations to help you find the soap that’s right for you:

Dry Skin:

Try: Oatmeal Shea or Lavender Oatmeal. Many of our customers have dry skin and are happy with any of our soaps. Their scent preference is more important to them than the actual qualities of the soap. Because our soaps don’t strip your skin of its natural oils and because we add extra oils to our soaps, we don’t think you’ll find any of them drying. The two types mentioned above have the addition of oatmeal and shea butter, which may make them a little more moisturizing and soothing to dry itchy skin.

Unscented Soaps for Dry Skin:

Try: Oatmeal Shea, Calendula and Aloe, Jewelweed, or Castile. Castile soap has a reputation for being a very gentle and effective cleanser. Our castile soap is a true castile soap, meaning it is made with 100% organic extra virgin olive oil. The lather and feel of the soap is somewhat different than other soaps that use a blend of oils; it has a silky texture to it with very fine bubbles in the lather.

Eczema:

Try: Lavender Rosemary. We originally made this soap as our eczema bar and have received great feedback from customers. Both Lavender and Rosemary are antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, making them excellent for soothing inflamed or irritated skin.

Psoriasis:

Try: Pine Tar. Pine Tar is well known for relieving the itchiness and discomfort caused by psoriasis. While this soap smells medicinal, it has proven effective for many of our customers who suffer from this skin condition.

Redness:

Try: Lavender, Frank and Myrrh, Calendula and Aloe, Tea Tree. All of these essential oils have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Calendula and Aloe is unscented and has a lot of healing properties for inflamed skin.

Acne:

Try: Charcoal or Tea Tree. Tea Tree has anti-fungal and antibacterial properties, making it an excellent choice for acne-prone skin. Our Charcoal soap contains tea tree essential oil and has the additional benefit of charcoal, which absorbs dirt and oil from your pores.

Soaps for the Face:

Try: Oatmeal Shea, Calendula and Aloe, Frank and Myrrh, Dead Sea Mud, or Lavender. Any of our essential oil soaps can be used on your face. The ones listed above are gentle and would be my top choices for the face.

Poison Ivy:

Try: Jewelweed. Our Jewelweed soap is made with a strong jewelweed tea. Jewelweed is known to neutralize the poison ivy oils and thus is perfect for use as a preventative.
