Calendula and Aloe soap from Bay Berry Bliss LLC

Choosing the best soap for someone with allergies or sensitive skin presents a challenge for some people. People react to all kinds of things, so it’s important to understand what ingredient you actually have an allergic reaction to, closely scrutinize product labels, and ask questions when you aren’t sure if a product is allergen-free for yourself or someone you love. We offer a large variety of soaps made with 100% USDA Organic oils and butters. Some of these are unscented soaps with no added scent. Also, we have soaps scented only with 100% pure essential oils.

To further complicate this situation, not everyone adheres to the FDA’s issued regulations regarding product labeling. We want you to know that we follow these regulations and you can trust our product labels.

How we make our soaps

Here is a little background about how we make our soaps. At Bay Berry Bliss we combine USDA Certified Organic oils and butters with Lye to make our soap. We add extra oils (superfat) to our soaps to ensure that there is no remaining lye in the soap once the saponification process is complete. We often hear people say they are allergic to lye. The truth is that lye is a caustic material that will burn anyone’s skin (its not an allergic reaction). It is however, by definition, a necessary ingredient to make real soap. The byproducts of this chemical reaction are soap and glycerin, which is a humectant that draws moisture to the skin.

Once the chemical reaction is complete, you are left with soap and glycerin, which is a humectant that draws moisture to the skin. We cure our soaps for a full six weeks on a dry rack. It is recommended that soaps cure for at least 4 weeks, which is what most soap makers do. We find that curing the soaps for a full six weeks ensures a nice hard bar of soap that lasts longer.

Unscented Soaps

Unscented soap could easily be on of the best soap for someone with allergies. Removing the scent means there are less ingredients to react to. Sensitive skin often prefer soaps without any scent added. Here are some soaps with information and ingredient lists for your consideration:

Castile Unscented Natural Soap

The most basic soap that we make is Castile soap. Our Castile soap has only two ingredients, olive oil and lye which we consider a solution of sodium hydroxide and water. You can’t make soap with any fewer ingredients than this. This bar of 100% olive oil soap has a very creamy, mild lather and is an excellent choice for those with sensitive skin or with allergies to nut-based oils. This is currently our only bar soap that doesn’t contain coconut oil.

Ingredients: Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Water, and Sodium Hydroxide.

Oatmeal Shea Unscented Natural Soap

Oatmeal Shea soap is great for even the most dry, sensitive, or itchy skin types since it has no added fragrance or colorants. Shea butter is included for its emollient and moisturizing qualities, which creates a bar of soap your skin will love. Oatmeal offers many skin-care benefits and is a wonderful addition to soap. It can act as an exfoliant and is also a soothing itch reliever. Dry skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, rashes caused by heat or poison ivy, and even bug bites have historically been treated with oatmeal. We grind the organic oats ourselves to make a soap that has all the beneficial qualities that oatmeal has to offer in a soap. The consistency of the oatmeal used for this soap provides a soap with a mild exfoliant; it is noticeably less exfoliating some of our other soaps.

Ingredients: Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Sustainable Palm Oil, Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Shea Butter, Organic Ground Oats, and Organic Castor Oil.

Calendula and Aloe Unscented Natural Soap

There is a long history of using both calendula and aloe for their healing and soothing properties. Calendula helps with dry or damaged skin and promotes fast healing and regeneration of skin because of its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Aloe is renowned for its capability to rejuvenate, heal, and soothe irritated, inflamed, and/or sunburned skin. It contains rich concentrations of compounds that promote healing and tissue repair. We incorporate both into a soothing soap that is gentle enough for a baby’s skin. This soap is great for even the most sensitive skin types since it has no added fragrance or colorants.

Ingredients: Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Sustainable Palm Oil, Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Essential Oil Blend, Organic Castor Oil, Aloe Extract and Organic Calendula Petals.

Soaps Scented Naturally with 100% Essential Oils

On our website, we very clearly differentiate the essential oil soaps from the fragrance oil soaps. We find that all of our soaps are moisturizing. But when asked, we would recommend soaps with essential oils as the best soap for someone with allergies. Below are a few of our top choices of essential oil soaps. These soaps may be helpful for dry, itchy, inflamed skin conditions that those with sensitive skin often endure. Fragrance oils are synthetic chemicals that are made in a lab. They do not add any therapeutic value to the soap.

Lavender Oatmeal Natural Soap

Lavender has healing properties, including antiseptic and anti-inflammatory, and is excellent for fungal infections. Oatmeal is well known for its soothing, skin-loving qualities; in soap it makes a fine exfoliant as well. The addition of shea butter creates a bar of soap your skin will love. This is due to its emollient and moisturizing qualities.

Ingredients: Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Sustainable Palm Oil, Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Essential Oil Blend, Organic Ground Oats, Organic Shea Butter, Organic Castor Oil, and Ultramarines.

Lavender Rosemary Natural Soap

The combination of lavender and rosemary essential oils offers many healing qualities to the skin. Rosemary is a natural antioxidant and antiseptic. It is also beneficial in increasing blood flow to reduce inflammation and can be very soothing for those suffering from eczema. Lavender also has many healing properties including antiseptic and anti-inflammatory and is excellent for fungal infections. Our lavender and rosemary soap is the perfect choice for anyone who suffers from dry or irritated skin.

Ingredients: Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Sustainable Palm Oil, Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Essential Oil Blend, Organic Castor Oil, and Organic Rosemary Leaf.

Pine Tar Natural Soap

Pine Tar is a well-known additive to soap for centuries. Its use is believed to help with skin conditions such as eczema, dandruff, psoriasis, and other itchy-skin conditions. This soap also includes an essential oil blend to help balance the natural aroma of pine tar.

Ingredients: Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Organic Sustainable Palm Oil, Water, Pine Tar, Sodium Hydroxide, Essential Oil Blend, and Organic Castor Oil.
